There is nothing that takes a costume to the next level faster than the right makeup and hair.. and fake lashes are the icing on that well curated cupcake. Whether you want a dramatic lash to go with your sexy costume, or if you want to go all out with avant garde styles such as feathers and rhinestones, keep reading for the 30 best Halloween eyelashes to elevate any costume.
TIPS FOR WEARING HALLOWEEN EYELASHES
USE YOUR OWN GLUE
Many Halloween eyelashes come with a small lash glue for convenience. Toss it out, seriously.
The glue that comes with costume lashes is usually horrible and there’s an excellent chance that if you use it, your eyelashes will wind up lost and alone on a street corner somewhere along your path.
I swear by Duo Lash Glue and have been using it for years (it comes in clear and black formulas). If you have a latex allergy, check out this one by Revlon which is latex-free and super long lasting.
CUSTOMIZE THEM OR MAKE YOUR OWN
Lashes don’t have to be a one size fits all type of accessory, especially on Halloween. Many brands of Halloween eyelashes feel a little flimsy or cheap, so I usually find myself making my own modifications.
Whether it’s stacking them with another lash style for fullness, or gluing on your own details like rhinestones, taking a little extra time to customize your lash will make you happier with your entire costume in the end.
Celebrity makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle is the king of customizing eyelashes. Remember when he told us how he customized Christina Aguilera’s lashes for her music video?
3 TRICKS FOR APPLYING HALLOWEEN EYELASHES
A lot of my clients complain about fake eyelashes being too difficult to apply. Check out my 3 best tips to make the process as easy as possible.
MAKE SURE THE GLUE IS TACKY The quickest way to make a total mess and wind up with glue all over your eyelid is to start applying your lash before the glue is tacky.
When you apply lash glue to the eyelash, let it sit for 30-40 seconds to let the glue get tacky. This will not only help the lash stick better initially, but it also eliminates a lot of necessary mess.
LOOK DOWN INTO A MIRROR Looking straight ahead and applying a fake lash is extremely difficult, especially if you are a novice.
When applying your own fake lashes, take a handheld mirror or a compact and hold it at chin length, facing up. Look down into the mirror with your eyes and then begin applying the lash. This allows you to keep your eye open while positioning it at the perfect angle.. which is looking down.
USE TWEEZERS Tweezers are a lifesaver when applying fake eyelashes. Once you set the fake lash in its initial position, grab the corners with a pair of tweezers and carefully set them into place.
