It’s that time of year again, LA! The Makeup Show will be at The California Market Center this weekend, March 28th and 29th, 2015. As always, my favorite part of the show is the education, and they have some awesome speakers and classes this year. Check out these ones that caught my eye, and maybe I’ll see you there!
Saturday
10am-11am Marylin Lee Spiegel, Danielle Saunders Rush and Mary Klimek for Embryolisse
If you’re a makeup artist interested in pursuing a career in television, don’t miss the first keynote of the day! Marylin Lee Spiegel is the dept. head for American Idol, Danielle Saunders Rush has been the dept. head on many television shows such as Dads (FOX), Touch (FOX), and Daybreak (ABC). Mary Klimek is the dept. head for HBO’s new show Togetherness The New Normal (NBC), Enlisted (FOX), and Last Man on Earth (FOX). They’ll be discussing choosing the right product, preparing the skin, designing makeup for character, client and continuing to develop your kit and career.
This is the keynote I’m most excited to see this weekend. I’m a big fan of Fiona Stiles’ work and if you’re interested in working with celebrities, you need to sit in on this talk. Fiona is represented by The Wall Group and her client list includes Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Jessica Chastain and Nicole Ritchie.
1:30-3:00 Ellis Faas
Ellis Faas is an industry icon and has been named “one of the most influential make-up artists of her generation” by Vogue Paris. Her work is so artistic and inspiring, I can’t wait to see this talk. Ellis will sit down with James Vincent for a Q&A session and will also be doing a demo.
3:30pm-5pm Changing the Game – Donald Robertson
I’m extremely interested in what this keynote will offer. Donald Robertson is an artist, but not a makeup artist. He has worked with Estee Lauder on special projects and played a role in starting MAC’s Viva Glam Campaign. Robertson launched American Marie Claire before redesigning American Glamour with Conde Nast and Hearst.
Seminar Space B: 12:45-2:30 How to Get in the Union
I highly recommend sitting in on this talk if you do television and film work and are interested in eventually joining the makeup artist’s Union. I saw this a few years ago and picked up such valuable information. It’s not an easy process so go and ask questions!
Sunday
12:00-1:30 Art and Influence: A conversation with industry insiders and MAKE UP FOR EVER Turner Floyd, Melanie Inglessis, William Lemon III and James Vincent
While I’m not too sure what they’re going to be discussing, this keynote is not one to miss. I’m especially excited to see Melanie Inglessis, as I’ve been following her work for years. It’s bound to be packed with valuable information and advice from some of the industry’s top artists.
9:45-10:30am Editorial Makeup in Black and White vs. Color – Kanesha Perry for Stila Cosmetics
I love the idea behind this class, and it’s not one I’ve seen on the schedule before. Doing makeup for black and white images is so different, it’s definitely one to try and catch if you’re there early on Sunday.
4:00-4:45 Beauty Business for Entrepreneurs – Erik Kaiser for GlamcorTec
Some of the most valuable talk’s I’ve attended over the years have been about the business. I’m not sure exactly what Erik Will be discussing but I’m excited to find out.
Also not to miss..
Makeup Forever will have their new primers for people to check out, and Beautylish is celebrating the launch of Bioderma Sensibo in the United States. There will also be some new faces among the booths, as brands such as Ardell, Kat Von D, NYX, The Makeup Light, Mario Badescu and Blinc will be making their Makeup Show LA debut.
Ellis Faas will be launching her book, ‘On the Edge of Beauty’ at The Makeup Show LA, and will be having a book signing on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Booth #5013 following her keynote presentation.
