Review: L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara

I love testing new mascaras but I find myself running back to L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara time and again. It’s like one of those relationships where you have been together so long and end up breaking up to “see what else is out there.” Inevitably, 2 weeks later you come running back to the one you know has been right for you since the start. This is how it is with me and Voluminous. It has everything I need in a mascara, and it does the job right.

I’m not a huge fan of spending tons of money on a mascara (for personal use). I use it everyday, and I’ve got a lot of lashes, so shelling out $25 every 3 weeks for a new tube is not something I’m into.  At only about $8 in almost any drugstore, L’Oreal Voluminous  not only cheap but it works!

L’Oreal Voluminous gives thickness, separation and length in only 2 coats.  It is my go-to mascara for most jobs. If I need a little less drama, I apply it with a fan brush. It doesn’t clump and I have never had a problem with smudging or flaking.  It’s one of the consistent mascaras that I see in other artist’s kits as well.

Their new shade is called Carbon Black and it is fantastic. It’s advertised as a “shade blacker than black” and I haven’t even bothered with the other colors since this came out. They also finally came out with a waterproof version! L’Oreal has all the bases covered.

Those before and after pics are amazing!! I JUST bought Voluminous the other day (curved brush). At first it was a mess. Then, once I figured hoe to use the curve to my advantage and take my time applying…WOW…my lashes looked AMAZING!! Are there any other mascaras you’d suggest??

    Hi Tanny!
I’m so glad you like the Voluminous! It’s definitely my personal go-to mascara and I haven’t found any that I like more. Sometimes I use CoverGirl Volume Exact mascara and every time I use it, I forget how much I actually love it.

On the more expensive end, I really like Lancome, Dior and YSL

    Thanks for reading!

Which Lancome mascaras would you recommend? I have short, med. thick lashes that are quite light at the tips. When you used the Voluminous as in the above photo, did you let it dry between coats? Any other application tips?

P.S. Do you use the curved or straight wand?

I use both the straight wand and curved.

To apply, I start at the base of the lash and wiggle it back and forth all the way up to the tips. I don’t really let it dry before applying the next coat, I just keep coating more of the product on because I feel like I can manipulate it more when it’s still wet. I apply about 5 coats on myself because I know that my lashes can handle it without looking clumpy, but on my client’s I usually do about 3 coats.

    Hope this helps! 🙂
