Summer is slowly coming to an end.. even though impossible to tell since it’s currently 500 degrees outside in Los Angeles. Just because it’s almost time to say good-bye to our swimsuits and tank tops, doesn’t mean we have to bid our tans adieu as well.
Recently, I picked up a bottle of Banana Boat’s Sunless Summer Color at a discount store because it was really cheap and I love testing new self tanners. This is definitely the best (drugstore) self tanner I’ve tried so far. It goes on smooth and is very easy to rub in. It takes about 5 minutes to dry but leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized. If you take care to rub it in well, you will be 100% streak free. The only thing I dislike about this product is the smell. Like most self tanners, it starts to develop that nasty fake tan smell. I usually tan in the afternoon so it develops while I sleep and then I can wash it off in the morning.
When applying, there’s a subtle hint of color so you can see where you’re putting it, and then it fully develops in about 5-6 hours leaving a gorgeous, deep and natural looking tan. My skin is somewhat pale but I tan easily and when I tan, I get pretty dark. I’ve been using the Deep Dark color, and with only one application I’m as dark as I want to be without having to spend weeks in the sun.
Update 4/1/2014: For some reason, this tanner stopped working for me. One day out of the blue, the application didn’t get as dark as I had experienced in the past. I had to start applying several coats and it was still not dark enough for me. I figured that my bottle had possibly expired so I tried another one and the same thing happened. I can’t figure out the reason but I’ve since moved on from Banana Boat’s Summer Color.
